  • Author: Joriel
  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A flaky, buttery, and indulgent breakfast bake made with day-old croissants, chocolate chips, and a rich vanilla custard. This Easy Chocolate Croissant Bake is the perfect make-ahead dish for brunches, holidays, or slow weekends. With minimal prep and a melt-in-your-mouth result, it’s a bakery-style breakfast you can make in your own kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 large day-old croissants, cut into chunks

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • 4 large eggs

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • Powdered sugar (optional, for topping)

  • Fresh berries or whipped cream (optional, for serving)

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Dish
• Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 baking dish.
• Slice or tear croissants into 1- to 2-inch pieces.
• Layer croissant pieces evenly in the dish and sprinkle chocolate chips between and over them.

2️⃣ Make the Custard
• In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth and combined.

3️⃣ Assemble the Bake
• Slowly pour the custard evenly over the croissants and chocolate chips.
• Press down gently with a spoon or spatula to help croissants soak in the custard.
• Let rest for 10–15 minutes at room temperature.

4️⃣ Bake It
• Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is just set.
• Tent with foil if top browns too quickly.

5️⃣ Cool & Serve
• Allow to cool for 10 minutes.
• Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh berries or whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

  • Use day-old croissants for best texture; they absorb the custard better without getting soggy.

  • To make it ahead: Assemble everything and refrigerate overnight, then bake fresh in the morning.

  • For extra richness, substitute half of the milk with heavy cream.

  • Variations: Add fresh raspberries, chopped nuts, espresso powder, or white chocolate for your own twist.

  • This bake freezes well. Cool completely, wrap tightly, and freeze for up to 1 month.

  • Reheat slices in the microwave or oven at 325°F for 10–15 minutes.
