Fudgy Red Velvet Brownies – 7 Expert Tips for Gooey Perfection

  • Author: Joriel
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 9–12 brownies (depending on cut size)
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

These moist, fudgy Red Velvet Brownies are as gorgeous as they are delicious! With a rich cocoa base and a tangy-sweet cream cheese drizzle, they’re the perfect treat for holidays, parties, or whenever your sweet tooth calls.

Ingredients

For the Brownies:
• 1 box red velvet cake mix (15.25 oz)
• 2 large eggs
• ⅓ cup vegetable oil
• 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Cream Cheese Drizzle:
• 4 oz cream cheese, softened
• ½ cup powdered sugar
• ½ tsp vanilla extract
• 1–2 tbsp milk (adjust for drizzling consistency)

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat & Prep:
• Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
• Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2️⃣ Make the Brownie Batter:
• In a large bowl, mix cake mix, eggs, oil, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
• The batter will be thick—use a spatula or sturdy spoon to spread it evenly in the prepared pan.

3️⃣ Bake the Brownies:
• Bake for 20–25 minutes or until the center is set and a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
• Cool completely in the pan before adding the drizzle.

4️⃣ Prepare the Drizzle:
• In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
• Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and 1 tbsp milk. Whisk or beat until smooth and drizzle-ready.
• Add more milk ½ tbsp at a time if needed for desired consistency.

5️⃣ Drizzle & Serve:
• Once brownies are fully cooled, drizzle the cream cheese topping over the surface using a spoon or piping bag.
• Slice into squares and enjoy!

Notes

Use Room Temperature Ingredients: Let your eggs and cream cheese come to room temperature before using. This ensures a smoother batter and a lump-free drizzle.

Thick Batter is Normal: The batter will be thick — almost dough-like. That’s exactly what gives these brownies their signature dense and fudgy texture.

Drizzle Tips: For a cleaner drizzle, use a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off. Add milk to thin the cream cheese mixture if it’s too thick.

Optional Add-Ins: You can fold in ½ cup white chocolate chips, chopped walnuts, or mini marshmallows for a twist on the classic.

Chill for Cleaner Cuts: For sharp brownie squares, chill the pan in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before slicing.

Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days. For longer storage, freeze in layers with parchment between them.

Gluten-Free Option: Use a gluten-free red velvet cake mix if needed. The rest of the ingredients are naturally gluten-free.

Flavor Boost: Add ½ teaspoon of espresso powder to the brownie batter to subtly enhance the cocoa flavor.
