Description

This classic Chicken Piccata recipe features tender thin cut chicken breasts sautéed in a buttery lemon sauce with capers. It’s quick, light, and bursting with flavor perfect for weeknight lunchs, dinners or elegant occasions. Serve it over pasta or with roasted vegetables for a complete meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (sliced thin)

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • ½ cup dry white wine (or chicken broth)

  • ½ cup low-sodium chicken broth

  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 2 tablespoons capers (rinsed and drained)

  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional)

  • Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Chicken
• Slice the chicken breasts horizontally into thin cutlets.
• Season both sides with salt and pepper.
• Dredge each piece in flour, shaking off excess.

2️⃣ Sauté the Chicken
• Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
• Cook chicken 3–4 minutes per side until golden.
• Remove and set aside on a plate.

3️⃣ Make the Piccata Sauce
• In the same skillet, add butter and white wine.
• Simmer for 2 minutes to reduce slightly.
• Add chicken broth, lemon juice, and capers.
• Simmer 3–5 minutes, scraping up brown bits from the pan.

4️⃣ Finish the Dish
• Return chicken to the skillet and spoon sauce over top.
• Simmer for 2–3 minutes until heated through.
• Garnish with chopped parsley and lemon slices.
• Serve hot with pasta, rice, or roasted vegetables.

Notes

  • Use thin cut chicken breasts to ensure quick and even cooking.

  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, add ½ teaspoon of cornstarch dissolved in 1 tablespoon of water during the simmer step.

  • Dry white wine gives the best flavor, but you can substitute it with extra broth for a non-alcoholic version.

  • Capers add briny contrast; rinse them well to reduce saltiness.

  • This dish pairs beautifully with angel hair pasta, steamed green beans, or a simple salad.
